Fed Up With Stained Teeth? Learn How Tooth Whitening Can Help

Perhaps you have noticed your smile looks less than dazzling just recently? Unfortunately most of us will find this at some stage as teeth gradually darken over time. This is just a natural part of aging that can be exacerbated by certain lifestyle habits such as drinking red wine, especially Green tea and coffee or having a liking for highly coloured foods such as curries. Luckily there is no need to put up with this state of affairs, as a tooth whitening treatment at Upper Berkeley Dental can soon restore your teeth to their former glory, considerably lightening the overall shade. So how can you find out more?

Book Your Full Consultation with Our Dentist

1Your first step is to book a full consultation with our dentist and this is essential before any type of tooth whitening treatment. It’s important to remember this is a dental treatment and should only ever be carried out on a healthy mouth. During your consultation, your dental health will be fully assessed and our dentist can discuss the type of results you can reasonably expect.

Will Tooth Whitening Work on All My Teeth?

If you have any crowns, veneers or white fillings then these will not change shade, and tooth whitening may not work so well on teeth that have internal stains that cannot be lifted by the bleaching gel. This might be the case if you have severe dental fluorosis that has caused brown stains on your teeth, or if you have tetracycline staining. All these things will be fully discussed at your initial consultation at our dental surgery near Portman Square, London.

What Is the Treatment Procedure?

If you decide to go ahead, then our dentist will take a full set of x-rays and will record your current tooth colour and can show you the approximate results that treatment will achieve. For a naturally beautiful smile, you’ll be aiming for a tooth shade no whiter than the whites of your eyes. The next step will be to fabricate your custom-made whitening trays that are created using impressions of your teeth. At a 2nd appointment with our hygienists, your teeth will be cleaned and the whitening trays checked that these fit comfortably over your teeth, minimising the risk of the whitening gel leaking out. We will provide you with the correct strength of whitening gel to use at home, as well as full instructions on how to fill up the trays.

You’ll be provided with enough gel for your first course of whitening, after which we will want you to return to Upper Berkeley Dental so the results can be assessed. If necessary we will provide you with more whitening gel to continue the process.

Will I Experience Any Side Effects?

It’s possible you might experience mild tooth sensitivity, and if this is the case you may want to stop treatment for a day or two until it subsides. Tooth whitening at home is an extremely gentle way to whiten teeth and our professional grade whitening gels are much more effective than anything you can buy over-the-counter. Another huge benefit of having a custom whitening treatment in Marble Arch, London is that you can always top up the treatment later on using your whitening trays and gel that can be supplied by our surgery. Even though the results can last for up to two years, your teeth will eventually begin to darken.
