Quality routine dental care for all our patients

The most common reason for your visit to the dentist is for your routine check-up. We take pride in our regular dental care, and offer the best treatment to all our patients. Routine check-ups are essential to your ongoing dental care as they give us the chance to fully assess your mouth, teeth and gums for any issues. Not every dental issue is immediately visible, so we can spot signs of gum disease or decay before they become a bigger issue.

Why do I need regular dental check-ups?

Prevention is always better than cure so it’s important for us to take a look at your teeth and gums at least once a year. We can spot potential problems before they get a chance to get worse. Some issues, such as a cavity, can result in more costly treatment needed further down the line to treat properly if they are left.

Our wonderful dentist, Jo, can also spot if your brushing routine at home needs some improvement. You’ll receive plenty of guidance on how to clean properly and protect your smile from future issues. We also love getting to know you and your family through your dental check-ups!

What does a dental check-up involve?

Arrival

On your arrival at reception, you will be greeted by our friendly receptionist, who may ask you to complete a medical history form so we can understand a bit more about your general health. We can then tailor our treatment to suit you.

Consultation

Our dentist, Jo, carries out your check-up in the dental surgery. She looks outside your mouth as well as inside, checking your cheeks, tongue and all soft tissues in your mouth. Next, she looks at your teeth and your smile, checking for any signs of disease and noting the treatment needed to fix this. She checks if orthodontics would help you. She also checks your teeth for tooth surface loss and will discuss if your teeth are wearing away or not. After measuring the gums and the colour of your teeth, she gives you a summary of your oral health. X-rays may be needed at some of your check-ups, and you will be advised if they are needed before they are taken.

Treatment plan

Jo will create a written treatment plan for your gums, teeth and prevention of disease, including costs. We will advise you in the best possible way on how to keep your teeth and gums healthy at home. We monitor the progress you make on every visit, using photos and periodontal charts which you can take home with you, so you can monitor it too! Check-ups are important and according to your risk category you may need one or more per year.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I see the dentist?

You should aim to see your dentist for a check-up twice a year. However, you may not need to see us every six months and your dentist will let you know when you need to come back for your next check-up. If you have any problems between check-ups please phone us to arrange an earlier appointment.

Does a dental check-up hurt?

A dental check-up shouldn’t hurt. During your visit, we carefully check your teeth and gums for signs of decay or infection, using small and sterile tools. You may feel some discomfort if we need to scrape one of your teeth or use suction, but this is short-lived.

What if I have bad teeth?

If you have bad teeth, we will work with you to develop a treatment plan to improve your oral health. This may involve a combination of treatments, such as fillings, crowns, bridges, root canal treatment and extractions. We may also suggest orthodontic treatment to correct misaligned teeth.

Do I need to prepare for a dental check-up?

There are a few things you can do to prepare for your dental check-up:

  • Brush and floss your teeth regularly to help remove plaque and tartar buildup before your appointment.
  • Let us know of any dental concerns, symptoms or problems you’ve been experiencing.
  • Arrive on time to help ensure that your appointment runs smoothly.

By following these tips and scheduling regular dental check-ups, you can help maintain optimal oral health and prevent serious dental problems.
